Rebekah’s Story

Who I Am & Where I’ve Been:

I am 20 years old and I am from Egypt. I was sold by my parents at the age of 17 to a man from America. I believed I was coming to be his wife but instead found that I was one of seven wives he purchased on that trip. I could speak no English and even though I had my green card, my abuser used my lack of citizenship to threaten me with deportation every time I tried to stand up to the abuse. After a few years, I was able to leave him and get help through Thrive. Only to find out that I was pregnant with his child.

How Thrive Has Helped:

With Thrive’s help I was able to get an apartment of my own, completely leave the abuse, and heal from the abortion and all of its affects as well as the abuse. I have since been reunited with my family and am now living in another state married and have two children.
