Gayle’s Story

Who I Am & Where I’ve Been:

I am a 57-year-old mother of three. I grew up in a very domineering and controlling home which led me to also choose a husband that would control me. I was able to get out of the abuse and just ended up with one abuser after the other. At first, I had my children with me, but eventually, their father brainwashed them into believing that I was the problem. To this day, none of my children will talk to me… Believing that I am some kind of horrible person. They are now very close with their father, and have completely alienated me, which breaks my heart!

How Thrive Has Helped:

Thrive has helped me to secure a safe place to live and are literally my only support system. My entire family has abandoned me and I cry every day for my children. The abuser has devastated every area of my life and there is so much that I will never get back. Thrive is helping me to heal and try to move on, but I cannot get back what I lost… I am still very broken and raw.
